Joel Martinez on customizing the ContentManager

Joel Martinez has a nice example showing how to share resources between more than one ContentManager instance.

There are actually a lot of really cool possibilities with this approach. For instance if you have a couple of textures that you know are shared across all your levels, you could load those into one ContentManager when the game starts up, then use a separate ContentManager for each level and have it automatically pick up any references to the shared textures that were already loaded into the first manager.
